Bianconi Restaurant

  • History

Charles Bianconi was an Italian from Lombardy who moved to Ireland in 1802.

He started the first commercial horsedrawn carriage service here in 1815, then in 1831, set up a stagecoach service from the Commin’s Family and Commercial Hotel, now The Granville, in Waterford city.

Within a year he had become founder of the public transport system in Ireland and was known as The King of The Irish Roads.

Today The Granville Hotel Waterford has named their Restaurant after him and is now known as The Bianconi Restaurant.
